Brewers Bullpen Continues Slide

You would think that after Yovani Gallardo only gave up two runs through six innings yesterday that everything would be fine. You would be wrong. After Gallardo was pulled, Manny Parra gave up two runs, Carlos Villanueva gave up two and Trevor Hoffman gave up three in the final score of 9-2. What a pathetic display of pitching by this bullpen lately. Everything seemed to be going in the right direction after the last road trip, but clearly things are not.

The offense also continues their woes as they struggled for the second straight game without Ryan Braun and Carlos Gomez. Gomez recently went on the fifteen-day DL and they will miss his speed and defense for sure. With Braun out of the lineup, Jim Edmonds was batting third and that's not going to get it done no matter how well he's been doing this year. Derek Lowe shut them down yesterday. Yes, the same Derek Lowe that has a 5.73 ERA on the year.

How long does general manager Doug Melvin wait until we see his next move? Something has to be done about the poor bullpen and the fact that their starting pitchers can't go longer than six innings lately. Even when they pitch well, they don't pitch deep enough into games to give the bullpen a break. All sorts of problems are plaguing this team right now and with the Phillies coming to town this weekend, things are not looking good.
